It was the second amusement park to open in the 1990s, with the first being the Adventuredome (Grand Slam Canyon at the time) in 1992 at Circus Circus. Inside the entrance, a statue of Emerald City was placed in the middle, under a flickering night sky.Īlong with the hotel and casino came the MGM Grand Adventures, a giant theme park in Las Vegas. A massive cartoon-ish version of MGM's mascot, Leo the Lion, was installed on the entrance to the csaino. The original intent of the resort was to has a heavy theme of Emerald City, from one of MGM's most famous movie, the Wizard of Oz. Ironically, the hotel and casino opened on December 18, 1993, a year before the prediction. The hotel was originally predicted to open in 1994, as a massive banner displaying a lion read 'WATCH US ROAR IN 94'.
Another major in the hotel is KA, a show created by Cirque Du Soleil.
